How to Keep the Investing and Savings Bug

September 8, 2008

I recently gave a class the other week to my Soldiers about personal finance, saving, and investing.  You can see the PowerPoint slideshow of the class in the PowerPoint Presentation page of this blog.  It was the first of what I hope will be several personal finance classes that I present to them.  I was actually really impressed when some of the points that I made in the presentation actually hit home for a couple of the guys.  Since giving the class, I have been constantly quizzed about personal finance, what to do in certain situations, where to go for additional research, etc.  Several seem to have been bit by the bug, and one Soldier is especially gung-ho.  To steal a phrase from Dave Ramsey….my Soldier is gazelle intense about saving and investing now.

My question for everyone is how do we as investors and students of personal finance keep that intensity up?  How do I keep my Soldiers focused on saving for their retirement?  I’d love to hear your thoughts on this.  Feel free to leave a comment below…

“Personal Finance 101″ PowerPoint Presentation

August 16, 2008

This is the first presentation in a series dedicated to providing a basic knowledge of personal finance for supervisors focusing on topics such as investing, savings, and insurance planning for their subordinates.  The slideshow covers topics like the Federal Thrift Savings Program, Roth IRAs, credit card spending, term vs. whole life insurance, and emergency savings.  Please check back here for more PowerPoint presentations and check out the link above for others that are hopefully helpful.
